We take only a small number of map commissions each year; it is HIGHLY recommended that you book as early as possible to be sure you get a slot. Depending on the number of commissions ahead of you, turnaround time can vary from a few weeks to several months. Contact us for an estimated turnaround time for your project.
Mapmaking Process

After choosing your package and agreeing to the terms & conditions, please contact us to place your order. Maps take several weeks to complete and we are usually booked out several months. It's important to book far in advance of your publication date to be sure the map is ready in time.Once you've paid 50% of the total price, your commission will be booked and mapmaking can begin.

To begin work, we will need these things from you: 1) a rough sketch of your world, no matter how messy, is the most important resource we will use, 2) a written description of any elements not clear on the sketch, incl. climate info and architectural styles, 3) if intended for a novel: print specifications incl. trim, bleed, and gutter measurements.

We'll send you a first sketch for your feedback and approval, then move on to the next draft. Throughout the illustration process, we will supply you with updates and questions, so that you have ample opportunity to request changes. When the final piece is approved, you will be charged the remainder of your fee, and we will deliver the final map to you.
